Notre Dame de Sion High School offers a number of summer camps that are available to girls of all ages. These camps give students the opportunity to discover new passions and develop existing skills in athletics, academics and the arts.

Sion Summer hours and fees vary for camps offered.

Academic Camps

COLLEGE APPLICATION BOOTCAMP: Essay, Resume, & Application Clinic

Want to get a jumpstart on the college application process and lighten your load for the fall? Sign up for Sion's very own College Essay & Resume Writing Clinic! Sessions are limited to 18 students and spots are given on a first-come basis.

Cost: $240 + $6.84 convenience fee; Includes textbook: On Writing the College Application Essay

Academic Credit for Current Sion Students in grades 9-12

Dimensions In Visual Art– Mr. Michael Pesselato (0.5 Credit Class)

Dimensions in Visual Art is a class for the beginning high school art student. Digital and traditional art media will be used to instruct and inspire. The class will focus on key concepts of art and design and the development of visual thinking. Students will use a variety of materials and be guided in expression, creativity, and refining problem-solving skills through teacher modeling, historical discovery, and self-reflection to increase visual vocabulary and individual style. Students may take up to four semesters of Dimensions, as each semester is unique in assignments and goals.

Marine Science– Mrs. Suzanne Norberg (0.5 Credit Class) - part online, part lab

Marine Science is a project-based online science class blended with actual labs at Sion. Lab topics include bioluminescence, fish behavior, and dissections of shark, squid, skate (sting ray), crab, and starfish. Online exploration involves marine habitats (sandy beach, coral reef, tidal pools, estuaries, etc.), marine mammals, invertebrates, and fish, ocean currents, hurricanes, famous shipwrecks, scuba diving, and marine contributions in medical and genetic research.

Art Camps

All Art Camps are open to boys and girls!

3D Design/Theatre Tech– Mrs. Laura Burkhart

Sculpture introduces the students to the fundamentals of 3-dimensional art. They learn the basics of model construction, hand building, composition in a 3-dimensional space, color, and content.

Art Making– Mrs. Linda Blasdel

Art Making is a class for the beginning art student. Traditional art media will be used to instruct and inspire. The class will focus on key concepts of art and design and the development of visual thinking. Students will use a variety of materials and create 5 projects over 5 days.

Clay– Mr. Michael Pesselato

Explore the basics of throwing clay on the pottery wheel as well as clay hand-building techniques.

Digital Photography– Mrs. Kathy McShane

Students will learn how to add effects to their digital photos. Photographs will be altered by making an image look vintage, applying color, creating multiple exposure, adding water effects, including text, creating 3D effects, changing eye color, and more.

Improv– Mrs. Elizabeth Mulkey

This class offers instruction and practice in the skills needed for comedy improvisation. Listening, quick thinking, character development, and scene building techniques are developed through exercises, games, and improvisational scene work. Perfect for students with interest in the performing arts, this class also helps develop acting skills in addition to improvisation. No experience necessary.

Photography– Mrs. Kathy McShane

This course is an introduction to the basics of photography. Technical aspects of the camera, both film and digital, are covered. Black-and-white film developing and print processing are also included.

Theatre– Mrs. Laura Burkhart

In the intermediate theatre ensemble summer program, you will study acting, movement, and vocal technique, and apply these skills while rehearsing and presenting a performance at the end of the session.

Athletic Camps

Basketball – Coach Kate Pilgreen

The player who wants to work on fundamentals will focus on passing, defense, ball-handling and shooting.  Learn two-on-two and three-on-three offensive and defensive fundamentals. Held at Sion High School Gymnasium.

Field Hockey – Coach Gwyn Savage

Sion is among the few schools in Kansas City that has a competitive field hockey team. Learn the fundamentals of this developing team sport. Hit, push, dribble and flick.  Sticks and equipment provided. Held at Sion High School, on our brand new Athletic Field!

Lacrosse – Coach Molly Crawford

Lacrosse is one of the fastest growing team sports in the United States and you can experience it at Sion.  The sport is a combination of basketball, soccer, and hockey.  Learn how to throw, catch, and scoop the ball with a lacrosse stick and the fundamentals of the game. Lacrosse is a competitive sport at Sion. Held at Sion High School, on our brand new Athletic Field!

Soccer – Coach Matt Darby

You’ll work as a team and improve your skills at Sion’s soccer camp.  Girls will learn to pass, dribble, and shoot their way to victory! Held at Sion High School, on our brand new Athletic Field!

Softball – Coach Mike Dryer

Build your softball skills by attending the Sion softball camp.  With several current and former players helping, you will get a chance to improve your understanding of the fundamentals of hitting, fielding, throwing, and baserunning.  Campers will get individual instruction and feedback to encourage skill development.  Campers need to bring a glove and wear appropriate clothing/shoes for playing softball.  The camp will be held on our renovated softball field.

Strength & Conditioning – Coach Johnson and Coach Pilgreen

This camp is a supervised program designed to help individuals improve athletic performance and fitness.  Our focus is the development of strength, speed, agility, endurance, flexibility, balance, coordination, injury prevention strategies, and confidence.  The session caters for people of all levels.

Volleyball – Coach Bob Lampen

Get set to score with fundamental skills from attacks to serves.  The camp will emphasize individual technique and teamwork to improve your skills and have fun along the way.  Held at Sion High School Gymnasium.
