Mission & Vision
The Notre Dame de Sion School of Kansas City is an independent Roman Catholic school providing the highest quality college preparatory education from preschool through grade 12. Sion continues the tradition of the founding sisters, the Congregation of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Sion, inviting students to encounter God in a Catholic atmosphere that respects all faith traditions. The school partners with families and the community to prepare students for socially responsible, values based leadership in a culturally and religiously diverse world.
Kansas City families will choose Notre Dame de Sion to educate their children because of its academic excellence and Biblical values. They will cherish the school as a nurturing community where Catholic values, integrity, and respect prevail. At Sion, students will be empowered to develop and encouraged to use their unique gifts as they become self-confident, faith-filled adults who will know their "blessing" and bring about the Kingdom of God.
Statement on Diversity
At Notre Dame de Sion Schools of Kansas City, we affirm our ongoing commitment to value diversity, a commitment which flows directly from the charism and welcoming tradition of the Congregation of Our Lady of Sion. Our goal is that the entire Sion community - from our youngest students to our most seasoned alumnae and alumni, from our parents to our faculty and staff members - embraces the unique gifts of each individual and values the distinctiveness of each group of people. Born of diverse backgrounds and identities, we uphold first and foremost the dignity of each person. We are called to actively welcome and respect the individual differences of all. Cultivating this attitude is a lifelong process and is the essence of Notre Dame de Sion.
Welcome from the Head of School
As Notre Dame de Sion School celebrates more than 100 years as the leading PK-12th grade independent Catholic School in Kansas City, welcome to all that is Sion. From our Montessori/Pre-Primary classrooms and personalized co-educational academic programs at our grade school campus to the inclusive and progressive nature of our all-girls' high school campus, Sion uniquely and warmly receives students of all backgrounds to thrive as a “Sionian."
The founder of the Congregation of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Sion, Fr. Theodore Ratisbonne, believed that “somewhere in the world, there must be a school, some sort of sanctuary where the mysteries of the present and the future could be revealed.” Sion is a place to experience in an engaging college preparatory education while continuing to provide the nurturing and caring sanctuary for all of our students.
Today Notre Dame de Sion School of Kansas City continues to bring this vision to reality. A Sion education is rooted in our Catholic identity with a deep commitment to justice and service, a thirst for academic vigor and steeped in respect for cultural and religious diversity. Together with our outstanding faculty, Sion students develop the necessary skills to collaborate with each other, expand their critical thinking skills, enhance their creativity, and go on to not only thrive in an ever changing world, but bring the sanctuary of Sion to those who need it most.
Peace in Sion,
Mrs. Christina K. Broderick, MS.Ed Head of School
